Cascabel Mules

COYOTE WAITS
Coyote was born on a Friday the 13th, and we knew right away he was something special.  I named him after the Tony Hillerman novel of the same name, referring to the sneaky ways of the coyote, most often known as a trickster.  Coyote is black and sired by Walter, a pure Catalonian jack from imported stock, and out of Jet Legs.  Coyote was sold to the Jaffe family who wanted to try him as an endurance mount.  Coyote now holds the distinction of being the FIRST MULE to qualify for the Pan American Games (1999) in Canada.  There was much uproar among the judges over whether or not a mule should be allowed to compete, however, he DID qualify and he certainly did fall under the category "any equine" as stated in the rule book.  He did compete in the 100 mile endurance race, and has the added distinction of being the FIRST MULE to finish this race.  He has won many endurance racing awards from Best Conditioned to Year-End Awards; he recently (2004) competed in the 100 mile Tevis Cup.

Whenever there was an audience, Coyote would perform.

Coyote got wind of a camera......he certainly is living up to his name.  Here he is with owner/rider, Mike Jaffe

Back to business......Coyote and Mike stepping out with comrades in an endurance race.
